The 2014 Grand Boracay Flores de Mayo Festival held on May 24, 2014 was a huge success as several ladies from different establishments, Barangay Balabag, and the Local Government Unit of Malay participated in this colorful Filipino tradition. Thirteen beautiful reynas paraded along the world-famous White Beach of Boracay, donned in traditional Filipiniana gowns made of indigenous materials and mostly designed by renowned Aklanon fashion designers.
The event started with a celebration of the holy mass, officiated by Father Nonoy Crisostomo at the Holy Rosary Parish Church. The event, now on its second year turned out to be grander compared to last year as the participants exerted more effort in designing their costumes and floral arcs. This year’s celebration is more special compared to last year’s as participants attended an orientation to know more about the history of the Flores de Mayo and to get a deeper understanding of why we are celebrating this event. Renowned international painter and fashion designer Mr. Pepito San Jose and international mermaid performer and 2002 Binibining Pilipinas Semi-finalist Ms. Lakambini Alto-LaRocque stood as judges for the event.
The awardees were the following:

Thousands of spectators were amazed and appreciated the fact that this kind of religious and cultural tradition is still being celebrated in the island. The Boracay Foundation, Incorporated (BFI) has relived this tradition to showcase to visitors the Filipino culture. The BFI believes that cultural activities such as this should be highlighted, and that there is no better venue than the island of Boracay where thousands of local and international tourists flock each year. The marketing committee of the BFI aims to have wholesome activities for each month to help promote the island. The ultimate aim is to have travelers visiting the island not just to enjoy our famous beaches, but also to witness this vibrant event.
